Reading A Book In Space

On the anniversary of the first human to journey into space… which also happens to be the anniversary of the first space shuttle mission… I see I am tagged in a link to a video.

It’s a book with my name on the cover. And it’s being read by astronaut Michael López-Alegría.

And he’s reading it IN SPACE.

None of this is about me. It’s about Mike’s friend, astronaut Susan Kilrain. The book is her inspiring story, and what better place to record a reading of it than with a beautiful view of the Earth from orbit outside the window?

It’s also about Becky Hardy, the book’s illustrator. Her artwork of the Earth from orbit is wonderful to see in the video with the actual Earth from orbit right behind it.

It’s mostly about inspiring kids to reach for their dreams. I hope every young girl who believes she might not achieve her goal watches this and sees how Susan made it, despite many people telling her she couldn’t… even herself.

I was honored to help Susan relate her remarkable story in print, and seeing this moment is very special to me. I hope you enjoy watching it too.
